British singer-songwriter Gill Francis is a living testament that artistry can be reignited and a new journey can be born when you take a leap of faith. Through her music, she reminds listeners that they can be honest with God, and that God loves everyone unconditionally.  She aims to encourage people not to accept anyone else's version of who God is, but to find out for themselves. Finally, she reminds listeners that they do not have to become 'good enough' to come to God, because His arms are open wide.

 

Early Life

Gill grew up an introverted child.  She learned resilience and self-reliance. Her family home didn’t have a television, so she read often and developed her personal creativity. It was out of this that her love for writing poetry and songs was born.

 

Artistic Influences

Gill refers to Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life album as her greatest creative and musical influence. She also lists Donny Hathaway, The Emotions, Lalah Hathaway, Jazmine Sullivan, Danniebelle Hall, The Hawkins Family, Richard Smallwood, Anita Wilson and Tasha Cobbs-Leonard as some of her favourite artists.

 

Early Career

In the early 1990’s, Gill was focused on pursuing a career in music. Her efforts were rewarded and she went on to win a Black Music Award and support Sounds of Blackness and Silk. Gill worked on other musical collaborations before the birth of her son, which shifted her focus from her artistic aspirations.

Gill returned to a career in nursing, and shelved her musical ambition until a conversation with a friend in 2015 inspired her to realise there are no barriers between her and her dream; it was not too late to do what she loved, and the only true regrets when you review your life are the things left undone.

 

Teaming up with producer, songwriter Mahlon Rhamie, she is back with new songs, a new message, and a new vision of reaching the world through her music. 'My Life' her debut album is OUT NOW for download and streaming.
